Your yellow fever jab and certificate in one visit
As one of Greater Manchester's larger and most diverse towns, Oldham sends a lot of travellers to Africa, South America and beyond, and yellow fever is the vaccine people most often need the official certificate for. Getting it wrong can mean being turned away at the border, so it is worth doing properly.
As a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre on Featherstall Road North, we are authorised to give the vaccine and issue your ICVP the same day, with no GP referral and no long wait. We check the exact entry rules for your destination so you travel with the right paperwork.
Yellow fever vaccination in Oldham
Yellow fever is a serious viral infection spread by mosquitoes in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South and Central America. Many of these countries will not let you in without proof of vaccination, and some require it for onward travel or re-entry too. Oldham Clinic is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, which means we are authorised to give the vaccine and to issue the official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, the ICVP, on the same day. One appointment on Featherstall Road North and you leave protected and certified, with no GP referral needed.
Who needs the yellow fever vaccine?
You need it if you are travelling to, or sometimes through, a country where yellow fever is a risk or where proof of vaccination is a condition of entry. That covers much of tropical Africa and a swathe of South and Central America, but requirements vary country by country and change from time to time, which is exactly what we check for you against current NaTHNaC guidance. Even where a certificate is not legally required, the vaccine is often recommended if the disease is present, because it is a genuine health risk and not just a paperwork exercise.
The vaccine, the certificate and who it may not suit
Yellow fever is a single dose. Protection develops from about 10 days after vaccination, which is why we ask you to come in at least 10 days before you travel, and the World Health Organization now considers a single dose to give lifelong protection for most people. The minimum age is 9 months. Extra care is needed, and sometimes the vaccine is not advised, for people over 60, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with a serious egg allergy, and people with a weakened immune system. Where the vaccine is not suitable for you, we can discuss an exemption letter that explains why. See our booking page for current prices.
