Yellow fever jab and certificate, close to Manchester
Manchester travellers heading to Africa or South America often need a yellow fever certificate, and getting it wrong can mean being turned away at the border. The certificate has to come from an officially designated centre, and there is one an easy trip from the city.
Our clinic in Oldham, around 20 to 30 minutes from Manchester city centre, is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. We give the vaccine and issue your ICVP the same day, with no GP referral and free parking on-site, and we check the exact entry rules for your destination first.
Yellow fever vaccination for Manchester travellers
Yellow fever is a serious mosquito-borne infection found in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South and Central America, and many of those countries require proof of vaccination before they will let you in. That proof, the official ICVP certificate, can only come from a designated centre. Our clinic just outside Manchester, in Oldham, is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, so we give the single-dose vaccine and issue your certificate the same day, with no GP referral. We are about 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre with free parking on-site.
Who needs the yellow fever vaccine?
You need it if you are travelling to, or sometimes through, a country where yellow fever is a risk or where proof of vaccination is a condition of entry. That covers much of tropical Africa and a large part of South and Central America, though the exact requirements vary by country and change from time to time. We check your specific itinerary against current NaTHNaC guidance. Even where a certificate is not legally required, the vaccine is often recommended where the disease is present, because it is a real health risk.
The vaccine, the certificate and who it may not suit
Yellow fever is a single dose. Protection develops from about 10 days after vaccination, so we ask you to come in at least 10 days before you travel, and the World Health Organization now considers one dose to give lifelong protection for most people. The minimum age is 9 months. Extra care is needed, and sometimes the vaccine is not advised, for people over 60, those pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with a serious egg allergy, and people with a weakened immune system. Where the vaccine is not suitable, we can discuss an exemption letter. See our booking page for current prices.
