Your yellow fever certificate, issued the same day
Being asked for a yellow fever certificate can be stressful, especially if you are not sure who is allowed to issue one. The answer is that it has to come from an officially designated centre, and there is one right here in Oldham.
Our clinic on Featherstall Road North is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, which means we can give the vaccine and hand you the official ICVP the same day, valid for life for most people. If the vaccine is not suitable for you, we can talk through an exemption letter instead. No GP referral, and free parking on-site.
Yellow fever certificates in Oldham
If you have been asked for proof of yellow fever vaccination, you need an official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, the ICVP, and it can only be issued by a designated centre. Oldham Clinic on Featherstall Road North is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, so we can give the vaccine and issue your certificate on the same day, in one appointment, with no GP referral. For most people a single dose now counts as lifelong protection, so once you have your certificate it does not expire.
Which countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination?
A number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South and Central America either require a yellow fever certificate for entry, or ask for one if you are arriving from a country where the disease is present. The exact rules depend on your itinerary and can change, so the safest approach is to have us check your route against current NaTHNaC guidance before you travel. Returning to the UK does not require a certificate, but any onward country on your trip may check for one, which is why the order of your journey matters.
The vaccine, the certificate and exemption letters
Yellow fever is a single dose, and protection develops from about 10 days after vaccination, so your certificate becomes valid ten days after your jab. We ask you to book with that window in mind. Your ICVP is signed, stamped and issued on the day at our designated centre. For some people the vaccine is not advised, for example certain travellers over 60, those who are pregnant, people with a serious egg allergy or a weakened immune system. Where that applies, we can discuss a medical exemption letter, which some authorities accept in place of the certificate. See our booking page for current prices.
