Your typhoid jab, usually done the same day
Oldham is home to one of Greater Manchester's largest South Asian communities, and every year many families travel back to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh to visit relatives. Typhoid is one of the most relevant vaccines for those trips, because staying with family often means eating and drinking exactly as locals do.
Our travel clinic on Featherstall Road North makes it easy. There is no GP referral to chase, we can usually give the single dose the same day, and we will check whether you need anything else, like hepatitis A, before you go.
Typhoid vaccination in Oldham
Typhoid is a bacterial infection caught from food or water contaminated with the bacteria, and it is a real risk in places where sanitation and water hygiene cannot be relied on. It causes a high fever, headache and stomach upset and can be serious if untreated. A single typhoid jab is a simple, sensible precaution for a lot of trips, and at Oldham Clinic on Featherstall Road North we can usually assess you and give it in the same visit, with no GP referral and no long wait.
Who needs the typhoid vaccine?
Typhoid vaccination is recommended for travel to South Asia, particularly the Indian subcontinent, as well as parts of Africa and Latin America where food and water standards vary. It is especially worth having if you are visiting friends and relatives, staying in family homes or more rural areas, or travelling for longer, because those trips tend to involve more exposure to local food and water than a short package holiday. With Oldham's strong ties to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, this is one of the vaccines we are asked about most, and we are happy to advise whether it fits your trip.
The typhoid course and schedule
For most people typhoid is a single injection, and it can be given from 2 years of age. Protection lasts for around three years, after which a booster is recommended if you are still travelling to higher-risk areas. Ideally have it a couple of weeks before you travel so it has time to take full effect, though we can often help at shorter notice. We do not list prices here because they can change; see our booking page for current prices. If you need other travel vaccines at the same time, such as hepatitis A, we can usually give them together and talk through the rest of your itinerary.
