Why Manchester travellers come to us

Your rabies course, an easy trip from Manchester

Travellers right across Manchester need rabies protection for trips into Asia, Africa and Latin America, and our clinic just outside the city makes it easy to sort. Rabies is one of those vaccines people often leave late, then worry they have missed the window, and usually they have not.

We are in Oldham, around 20 to 30 minutes from Manchester city centre, with free parking and the Westwood Metrolink stop close by. There is no GP referral to chase and no long wait, so wherever you are in Greater Manchester you can get your rabies course under way quickly.

Rabies vaccination for Manchester travellers

Rabies is a virus spread by the bite, scratch or lick of an infected animal, and it is present across much of Asia, Africa and Latin America. Once symptoms appear it is almost always fatal, but it is preventable with a pre-exposure course before you travel. Our clinic in Oldham looks after travellers from right across Greater Manchester, giving the rabies course in one place with no GP referral and no long wait. We are about 20 to 30 minutes from Manchester city centre, with free parking on-site.

Who needs the rabies vaccine?

Pre-exposure rabies vaccination is worth considering for anyone travelling to a country where rabies is present, especially on longer or more adventurous trips. That includes backpackers and cyclists, people working or volunteering with animals, and travellers heading somewhere rural or remote where medical help could be a long way off. Children are a particular priority, as they are more likely to approach animals and less likely to report a bite or lick. If your trip takes you off the beaten track in Asia, Africa or Latin America, ask us whether the course is right for you.

The rabies course and schedule

The standard pre-exposure course is three doses, given on day 0, day 7 and between day 21 and day 28. If your travel date is close, an accelerated 0 to 7 day schedule may be possible, so it is always worth asking. Ideally start the course a few weeks before you fly. We never quote prices on the page; see our booking page for current prices. One thing we always explain: even after the full course, any bite or scratch abroad still needs urgent medical care, but your pre-exposure doses simplify the treatment you need and buy valuable time.
