Why Oldham pilgrims and travellers come to us

Your MenACWY vaccine and certificate, same day

Oldham has one of the largest Muslim communities in Greater Manchester, and each year many local people make the journey for Hajj or Umrah. The MenACWY vaccine is not optional for that trip, it is a requirement of the Saudi visa, and the certificate has to be right.

Our clinic on Featherstall Road North gives the vaccine and issues the certificate the same day, with no GP referral. We understand the visa rules on timing and validity, and we can bundle it with the other jabs commonly recommended for pilgrims so you leave with everything in order.

Meningitis ACWY vaccination in Oldham

Meningococcal disease is a bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and blood poisoning. It can develop very quickly and be extremely serious, which is why proof of vaccination against the A, C, W and Y strains is a condition of the Saudi visa for Hajj and Umrah. At Oldham Clinic on Featherstall Road North we give the MenACWY vaccine and issue your certificate the same day, in one appointment, with no GP referral needed.

Who needs the meningitis ACWY vaccine?

The most common reason people come to us for it is Hajj or Umrah, because the Saudi authorities require every pilgrim to have had the MenACWY vaccine, and the certificate must show it was given within the last five years and at least ten days before arrival. Beyond pilgrimage, it is also recommended for travel to the meningitis belt of sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the dry season, and for students heading into shared halls of residence where the infection can spread more easily. If you are unsure whether your trip needs it, we will check for you.

The vaccine, the certificate and the timing

MenACWY is a single dose that protects for around five years. For Hajj and Umrah the key detail is timing: it should be given at least ten days before you travel and must be within five years of your date of arrival in Saudi Arabia, so it is worth booking in good time rather than the week you fly. We give the vaccine, usually the Menveo brand used for this purpose, and issue your signed certificate on the day so your visa paperwork is ready. See our booking page for current prices, and let us know if you need other Hajj or Umrah vaccines at the same time.
