Hepatitis A cover, sorted in a single visit
Hepatitis A is on the list for a huge range of trips out of Oldham, from family visits to South Asia to holidays in North Africa, the Middle East and beyond. It is one of the vaccines people are most likely to actually need, and one of the easiest to sort.
At our Featherstall Road North clinic there is no GP referral to wait for, we can usually vaccinate the same day, and because hepatitis A and typhoid pair up so often, we will check your whole trip and give what you need together.
Hepatitis A vaccination in Oldham
Hepatitis A is a virus that affects the liver, spread through food and water contaminated with the virus. It is common in many parts of the world and can leave you unwell for weeks, so it is one of the most widely recommended travel vaccines. The good news is that a single dose gives solid cover for your trip, and at Oldham Clinic on Featherstall Road North we can usually assess you and vaccinate in the same visit, with no GP referral.
Who needs the hepatitis A vaccine?
Hepatitis A is recommended for most travel to Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, and to anywhere else with variable food and water hygiene. That makes it relevant for holidaymakers, backpackers, business travellers and people visiting friends and relatives alike. It can be given from one year of age, so it is often on the list for families travelling with young children. If your destination is outside western Europe, North America, Australia or New Zealand, it is worth checking whether you need it, and we will do that with you.
The hepatitis A course and schedule
A single dose of hepatitis A vaccine gives protection for around a year, which covers most trips. If you then have a booster dose six to twelve months after the first, your protection extends to roughly 25 years, which is excellent value if you travel regularly. You can be vaccinated fairly close to departure and still benefit, though a couple of weeks ahead is ideal. We do not publish prices here as they can change; see our booking page for current prices. Hepatitis A is often given at the same appointment as typhoid, so ask us and we will sort both together where suitable.
